See it when you believe it
You will have heard the saying “I’ll believe it when I see it”, Consider that a more appropriate saying is “I’ll see it when I believe it”.
All of us have our own set of beliefs that shape our lives. These beliefs affect what we think about ourselves and others and influences our emotions and actions. Consequently, it also affects how successful and happy we are.
Limiting beliefs are those which place barriers around our potential to succeed in life. They hold us back from truly achieving more out of life. And they are self-imposed - we are the ones holding ourselves back!
All events and communication is filtered through our own belief system. The final result is what you call your reality. All of your behaviour and results is determined by your belief system. How we think, act, and feel is based upon these beliefs - Our beliefs create our sense of reality. The results you get are ALWAYS according to your beliefs. Change those beliefs and you get a different reality!
The good news is that you can update the beliefs that have a negative effect on your health, relationships, finances and life.
First of all, realise that it’s only the way that you think about a situation that makes it a problem, hence the situation itself or others involved (even if it happened a long time ago) are not the cause of your mental/emotional state – only your thoughts are.
One of the first obstacles that stands between our desires and results rarely comes from the outside. Our mind can be our greatest ally or biggest roadblock. A great deal of people’s behaviour stems from beliefs they hold about themselves.
Did you know that about 95% of your thoughts and behaviours are based on beliefs that have been programmed into your mind by other people?
Beliefs are our current thinking about a topic. Beliefs are generally formed in two ways: by our experiences, inferences and deductions, or by accepting what others tell us to be true. Most of our core beliefs are formed when we are children. You form beliefs in many unconscious ways, influenced by parents, teachers, friends, the media, etc. Often, we get tunnel vision about our beliefs and call them ‘the truth’. From the point of view of the NLP communication model and the filters, if we believe something is true, we will often filter out information that contradicts it, or distort information so that it fits in with our beliefs. We form our beliefs first and then look for evidence in support of them afterwards rationalising it with explanations and ignoring anything to the contrary.
The question ‘is it true or real?’ has two answers ‘yes’ and ‘no’. It is true if you BELIEVE it to be true. It is not true if you BELIEVE it isn’t true.
The glass is both half full and half empty, depending on how you look at it.
Beliefs can be either positive and empowering creating success and belief in ourselves, or negative, disempowering, holding us back, limiting our behaviour and preventing us from fulfilling our true potential.
As Henry Ford said “whether you believe you can or believe you can’t, you’re right” In other words, our beliefs determine what we can and cannot do.
To change you HAVE to change your beliefs.
Remember, we tend to do everything possible to validate and reinforce our beliefs. We will think, feel and act accordingly. It is like a self-fulfilling prophecy. That is how powerful our beliefs are.
When you clear these limiting beliefs and emotions, you suddenly start seeing opportunities.
YOU GET MORE OF WHATEVER YOU FOCUS ON…
Our thoughts determine our actions, and our actions determine our success. Sometimes we have to step outside our comfort zone and do things that feel difficult, scary or uncertain. With the wrong thoughts and beliefs, we will continue to take the wrong actions or inactions for reaching our goals. With the right ones, we will start to shift towards productive habits, effective plans and successful actions.
